MLB: MAJOR LEAGUE BRUTUS

Lou will be back for his tenth season as an on field Major League Baseball photographer in 2017 for SiriusXM Sports.

HIs first game for the year was the preseason Naval Academy Baseball Classic in Annapolis, MD. The contest pitted the Washington Nationals against the Boston Red Sox on Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium. The tiny crowd was made up entirely of midshipmen from the academy who won tickets in a lottery. During the game, Brutus was honored to meet The Honorable Sean J. Stackley, Acting Secretary of the Navy, who was kind enough to slip LB one of his challenge coins.

LB has trips on the books to shoot baseball games in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Baltimore. and both the Yankees and Mets in New York City.

BRUTUS IN LA LA LAND

In a whirlwind weekend of Rock, LB flew into Los Angeles from the East Coast to get an exclusive listen to the new Stone Sour album.

The band had invited him to come out anytime during the recording process of “Hydrograd.” Realizing things were about to finish, Lou hopped on a plane on a Saturday morning, landed and went directly to the studio. He spent six hours with the band and the staff of Sphere Studios L.A. listening to the record, taking photos, and conducting an interview with Corey Taylor. The one-on-one chat covered the album, upcoming tour with KoRn, and band’s return to Rock Fest Wisconsin.

After his time with the band, Lou returned to directly to the airport and flew home at dawn. Twelve hours in the air for fifteen hours on the ground in total!

EL GRANDE DE ROCK

Thanks to the voters and members of Radio Contraband for naming Lou Brutus as the Best Nationally Syndicated DJ in America at the Rock Radio Awards in Las Vegas NV.

It was the fifth year for the awards, held this year at Club Vinyl inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, and the fourth year for the Best Nationally Syndicated DJ category. LB has won the award every time it’s been given out. He is now a Grand Champion and is no longer eligible to win the honor.

Chris and Matt Brooks of Like A Storm announced the category and brought Lou, who was also hosting the awards this year, to the stage. He thanked many of the DJs who inspired him including Scott Muni, Harry Harrison, Ron Lundy, Carol Miller, and Vin Scelsa. Lou was also sure to mention Darla the Wonder Dog.

The show opened with Brutus backed by the members of Shallow Side singing an LB original written just for the night “This Ain’t the Grammys (We Don’t Have to Kiss Pop Music’s Ass Tonight.)” Rachel Lorin also performed during the show.

2016 SWEET 16

To wrap the year up LB has published his lists of 2016 Sweet 16 songs and 2016 Sweet 16 Albums.

Metallica topped the song list with “Spit Out the Bone” with KoRn, Ghost, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Avatar, Volbeat, Green Day, Gemini Syndrome, Crobot, I Prevail, The Pretty Reckless, A Day to Remember, Highly Suspect, Skillet, and Motionless in White also placing.

“Hardwired…to Self Destruct” from Metallica was Lou’s top album for the year. Other artists with albums on the list include Avenged Sevenfold, Avatar, KoRn, Alter Bridge, Hellyeah, A Day to Remember, Green Day, Chevelle, Volbeat, I Prevail, Megadeth, Highly Suspect, The Pretty Reckless, Killswitch Engage, and Cheap Trick.

MANGER THINGS

Each year, illustrious illustrator Alan MacBain creates an image to be used for Lou’s holiday card. Most years the card’s theme is based upon something from the world of music, film, or television.

The card this year is entitled “Manger Things” and it riffs on the art from one of the advertising posters for the smash-hit from Netflix “Stranger Things.” However, instead of the kids on bikes looking at a damaged bicycles from the original, we have Lou and Darla the Wonder Dog surveying a manger which contains the creature from the show.
