HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM LOU & DARLA

As the holiday season opens, Lou and Darla the Wonder Dog have unveiled their Christmas card for 2019.

This year’s card features artwork based on the cover of an old Archie Comics Christmas Classic. Lou explained, “I figured since the new Riverdale show was wreaking havoc on Archie’s legacy, it would be nice to salute the comic’s old school roots.”

As with previous cards, the art was done by The Alan MacBain Cartoon Company. You can check out older cards and other images in the Art section of the site here. Alan is currently working on original illustrations for Lou’s upcoming book entitled “Sonic Warrior: My Life As A Rock N Roll Reprobate (Tales of Sex, Drugs & Vomiting at Inopportune Moments).” The book will be published by Rare Bird Books on April 14, 2020.

Each of this year’s cards are hand-signed by both Lou and Darla. If you’re not already on the list to receive one, the best way to get a card is to send a card of your own. The address is Brutus World Industries PO Box 361 Arnold, MD 21012. Supplies are limited!

A DECADE OF DARLA

Happy Birthday messages have been pouring in from around the world for Darla the Wonder Dog!

As his constant companion celebrates her tenth birthday, Lou wants to thank everyone for their love and well wishes. Darla celebrated her big day with breakfast, rubs, a Cheerios snack, more rubs, second breakfast, a nap, lunch, a walk, peanut butter treats, more napping, dinner, another walk and then a birthday party including a custom made “pupcake.”

Later in the evening, Darla took control of Lou’s Twitter feed answering questions from fans before retiring for the evening with more snacks and rubs.

Thanks again to everyone for reaching out to Darla and following the hashtag #aDecadeOfDarla.

FEAR AND LOATHING AT THE NORTH POLE

The 2018 holiday card from Lou and Darla has been revealed and it may be the best yet!

Based on Ralph Steadman’s “Bats Over Barstow” illustration from Hunter S. Thompson’s landmark novel “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” Lou’s is “Fear and Loathing at the North Pole.” It features he and Darla maniacally sledding through a frozen landscape.

The art was created by LB’s longtime partner in artistic crime Alan MacBain of the Alan MacBain Cartoon Company.

Inside the card the caption reads, “We were somewhere around the Arctic Circle on the edge of the tundra when the eggnog began to take hold. Suddenly there was a terrible HO-HO-HO all around us and the sky was full of what looked like red-nosed reindeer, all swooping and screeching and diving around the sled, which was going about a hundred miles an hour to the North Pole.”

The art can be enjoyed online. A select few physical cards went out to family and friends. Also, as the best way to get Christmas card from someone is to send them card, Lou mailed off cards to a number of listeners who had been kind enough to send to him.

2019 CALENDARS FROM LB & DARLA

Last year, Brutus produced his first ever calendar. It featured images from lighthouses he’s photographed around the world. Yeah, he’s kinda nerdy with that stuff. For 2019, we’re happy to announce two different calendars that you can only get thru social media.

The first calendar is “2019 Rock N Roll Images by Lou Brutus.” It features twelve black and white photos of stars both onstage and backstage that Lou interviewed during the year. Artists include Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Avatar, Five Finger Death Punch, The Pretty Reckless, Slipknot and others.

The second calendar is “Darla the Wonder Dog.” This was done especially by request for Lou’s followers who love Her Royal Pupness. Along with a dozen pictures of Darla through the year including at Easter, Halloween and Christmas, the calendar features special holidays and dates like National Mutt Day and National Puppy Day. Plus, there are birthdays for Darla’s other animal friends like Crosby, Babes and Venus the Meowing Pussycat. (Meow, meow, meow!)

These calendars are NOT for sale and will be in very limited numbers. The Darla calendars were produced in an especially small print run. The ONLY way to get them is to win them thru verified Lou Brutus social media accounts. Good luck.

YORKIE SUBMARINE

Time to save Pupperland with the release of “Yorkie Submarine.” It’s a downloadable coloring book that parodies “Yellow Submarine,” the landmark animated classic from The Beatles, celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this week. Download it for free here.

The story stars Lou’s beloved yorkiepoo Darla the Wonder Dog and tells the tale of the “Idyllic Doggy Destination” of Pupperland being invaded by evil Blue Kitties. Darla escapes in the Yorkie Submarine and brings back LB to free Sgt. Pupper’s Hungry Hounds Club Band. First they travel exotic undersea locales like The Sea of Digging Holes and The Sea of Dogs Can’t See Green before batting canine-hating creatures like Crazy Cat NippersDastardly Dog Catchers and The Fearsome Flying Vacuum.

Brutus wrote “Yorkie Submarine” with images provided by his longtime graphic artist Alan MacBain. Alan has provided art for several Brutus-related projects thru the years as well as other music-themed work for The B-52s and Dead Schembechlers among others.

Of the coloring book Brutus says, “I couldn’t help but notice that everyone on Earth has gone insane and want to beat each other into a fruit-juicy pulp. I thought, ‘What can I do to distract them for a few moments?’ Then I realized what the world needed was a totally whacked-out 50thanniversary parody of a trippy Beatles cartoon-movie starring my dog where she and I battle acid-casualty cats and giant, blood sucking ticks. Seriously, was there ever a better time for something so weird and silly? Hopefully, it will give people who download and color it a pleasant respite before they go back to yelling at one another. At least the price is right!”

Brutus continued, “The coloring book is free, but I encourage folks who enjoy it to donate their time and money directly to their local animal shelters and rescues. Our animal friends are one of the great blessings in life and we must be better stewards of this awesome planet we live on. I realize there are other problems that require attention, but with this particular project I thought it apropos to help our fellow creatures. Support the animal shelters and rescues where you live or consider adopting a pet of your own, even if it’s a wicked Blue Kitty, so you can join Darla and I on the Yorkie Submarine!”

FREE DOWNLOAD: Get the coloring book here. Then just download the PDF file and print it out! Be sure to share your colored versions (hand colored or computer coloring) with us on social media using the hashtag #YorkieSubmarine.
